Mares don’t always play by the rules. Nor does FedEx for that matter. Sometimes mare owners can be out thousands in terms of stud fees, collection fees, vet fees, and shipping and still not have a viably pregnant mare. This is nobody’s fault. It is rarely the stallion’s fault, and more commonly it is to do with mare’s having issues maintaining a pregnancy. Even exploring the reasons why comes at an often large additional cost to mare owners.
I have been thinking about what I can do, as a stallion owner, to make the mare owner’s journey less financially crippling. And so I am now going to offer that not only will I defer stud fees until after the mare is checked in foal, but that I will also offer to allow mare owners to pay stud fees on a payment plan with the last one being due after the mare has delivered a viable foal. I will ask that 50% of the stud fee be paid after the first pregnancy check, if the mare checks pregnant. The other 50% can be paid at the time of foaling out.
Mare owners who prefer to pay the stud fee upfront can do so and receive a $100 reduction in cost for doing so.
This new policy is applicable to all stallions standing at Farraway Stud.
Happy breeding!
